English term

back troweled , “keyed in”?

English to French Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering University course
Does the adhesive need to be back troweled
or “keyed in”?

Keying in and back trowelling makes the ridges in the adhesive (grout) so that the tiles stick properly. From my civil engineering dictionary

"accrochage m adhesion [of layers, e.g. paint, rendering, road metal], keying, or roughening to provide a key

keying [roughening] accrochage m"
