German term

Bogensprung

Anyone ever come across the term "Bogensprung" in a publishing context (talking about how inserts can be attached to a magazine)? It's not in any dictionary I have.

Thanks.

Following on from Klaus and Katrin Beihefter

If you are including a full-page addition on a different commercial printing stock, you can bind this between two press signatures (printers usually call this an insert rather than a tip-on).

In print a "Bogen" is called a "print signature" or simply "signature".

I agree with Klaus Beyer that the Bodensprung might be the point where two signatures are joined together
Klaus Beyer Oct 15, 2020:
Bogensprung Bogen would be a "folio" (i.e. 8 or 16 pages), so at the point where 2 folios are stapled (or stitched) together, the "Beihefter" can be attached, Beihefter just being an insert, I surmise
philgoddard Oct 15, 2020:
The "Tip-On" process uses temporary glue called "fugitive glue" to stick two marketing pieces together - and leaves no sticky residue on the piece once it's removed. This is an ideal way to add an extra, or bonus type message to your existing print piece. For example, a Tip-On is a great way to add a plastic gift card to a postcard; or a restaurant flyer offer to the inside of a magazine. Using the Tip-On process, you can glue virtually any two print pieces together - with each piece being able to separate and maintain its own unique value.

It looks like this term may be specific to one company.
The insert is placed at an angle, and it looks like one corner may be sticking up.

pullout?

You don't say whether you've researched it online, but Bogensprung means curvet, which is a horse's prancing leap. It could be a typo. Or could it be something that pops up when you open the magazine?

curved spine

Sprung here is the seam or spine of the book. Bogensprung means a curved or arched book spine. So the inserts can actually be attached the spine itself. This image in the web reference shows the components of a book (physical).

Seam is one of the translations of sprung: https://www.linguee.com/english-german/search?source=auto&qu...
