wachmistrz / starszy wachmistrz

Polish to English Other Military / Defense military ranks
Jest sporo źródeł z tłumaczeniami tych stopni, ale chciałabym poznać opinię kolegów bardziej doświadczonych w tej "militarnej materii" (nie wiem, które z dostępnych źródeł oferuje najbardziej trafne tłumaczenie). Zależy mi na jak najprostszym i najkrótszym tłumaczeniu obu stopni, bo tekst jest nimi nieźle nafaszerowany (występują też one w podpisach do zdjęć) i wolałabym uniknąć form typu "Sergeant Major of Horse", "Company Sergeant Major", itp.
Osobiście chyba poszłabym w "Sgt. / Sgt. Maj." (myślałam też o "Sgt. / Senior Sgt."), co koledzy na to?

Until World War II, each of the branches of the Land Forces used a set of different names for the same grades. For instance a sergeant was called sierżant in the infantry, ogniomistrz (literally master of fire) in the artillery and wachmistrz (from German Wachtmeister, or Master of the Guards) in the cavalry.

In the Polish Army rank insignia system there are two grades of sergeant: sierżant (OR-6 in NATO code) and starszy sierżant (OR-7). The rank first appeared in Henryk Dąbrowski's Polish Legions in Italy in the late 18th century. Both ranks are used in the infantry, armoured forces, air force. In the cavalry the equivalent is wachmistrz (literally wachtmeister). In the artillery the equivalent is ogniomistrz (literally firemaster). Nie znam rodzaju twojego tekstu. Jeżeli tylko informacje historyczne, to ja bym na początku dodał informację, że PL wachmistrz (in cavalry) = EN Sergeant Major of Horse = short: Sgt. Maj. H. - analogicznie do np. https://tiny.pl/7jlg1 . Tak samo z innymi stopniami.
