French term

abondement

French to English Bus/Financial Investment / Securities Securities invesment
Hi all,

I'm translating an investment securities report from French (France) to English (UK) and I'm stuck with a particular word. Please see below for further context:

Pour les actions, la période de calcul de la commission de surperformance s’étendra par exception de leur abondement [date] au [date].

Could anyone help please?

Many thanks :)

Discussion

Francois Boye Sep 8, 2020:
Here the matching contribution relates to the savings of each employee
Julie Barber Sep 8, 2020:
Some types of stocks & shares pension accounts (SIPPs), can have matching contributions. As per previous comments, we would need the wider context: https://www.sharesmagazine.co.uk/article/pension-power-will-...
Francois Boye Sep 5, 2020:
The investment securities report provides information on the components of savings, how they were invested, and the returns of each type of securities. Nothing special.

Has anyone among the US translators ever dealt with a 401k or TSP plan?
Suzie Withers Sep 5, 2020:
I agree, "matching contributions" doesn't seem to fit with the given context
philgoddard Sep 5, 2020:
Maybe it is an employee savings scheme, and Matthew's reference to an "investment securities report" is misleading. It's a shame he's not responding to questions.
Francois Boye Sep 5, 2020:
The money saved is invested in securities (stocks, bonds, CDs, foreign stocks, etc...). As the result, savers pocket the returns of those stocks at the end of each year.
SafeTex Sep 4, 2020:
@ all Phil is right I think to be very wary here as we are not talking about some employee saving scheme where the employer matches what you put in. If there is some sort of 'additional payment", I don't think that "matching contribution" really cuts it.
Francois Boye Sep 4, 2020:
@Phil

Many US employers, including the US government, provide matching contributions as an incentive for employees to save for their retirements.

Is this a fund report? And does "les actions" refer to a particular company? If so, which one?
The dictionary gives "top-up" or "matching contribution". I wonder if it means a free share issue - if we knew the company's name, we could confirm this.

neutral philgoddard : We don't have the full context, but this doesn't appear to be about employee savings schemes.

employer top-up contributions

Hello
Assuming it is indeed this, and bearing in mind that there does not seem to be a further explanation in the text itself, I'd flesh it out a bit to make it clear using "Employer"
"Top-up" is a good term in my opinion, (see references), especially as we don't know that the employer matches the employee contribution euro per euro
