"Daher sollten Frauen den Arzt von einer bestehenden oder eingetretenen Schwangerschaft unterrichten."
This is from a package leaflet (intended for ordinary people of course). You guys agree this is a tautology, right? If a pregnancy is already existing (bestehend), then a pregnancy that has "eingetreten" (occurred) means that the pregnancy is also already existing, right?
So in simple layman's terms and what one often reads in package leaflets is the simple phrase:
"Women should tell their doctor if they are pregnant" (this is how I translated it)
In this instance, I can't see the nuance between "bestehend" and "eingetreten"

I'm pretty sure it means "if you are already pregnant, or become pregnant while taking this medicine". The "eingetreten" bit means "at such time as it occurs".

I don't like that eingetreten is something "after the fact," since it's a past participle.
One of the drugs where the leaflet contains this sentence is betamethasone:

As a GNS, I agree that the German sentence is flawed and, as said somewhere else, I am not fond of guesswork based on context. Guessing the right word may work, but it is quite risky most of the time.
Else, they could have just said "bei Schwangerschaft." Phil's version is pretty rare, it seems.
