Discussion

Ashok Pipal (asker) Jul 1, 2019:
Liz.
Due to pressing time-limit, I have left the abbreviation untouched. There is no revert on this from the agency so far.
Helena Chavarria Jun 29, 2019:
@Liz Thank you for pointing this out. It really annoys me when people refuse to follow the KudoZ rules.

This is someone else to add to my blacklist!
liz askew Jun 29, 2019:
What was the answer in the end as this question was closed?
Stuart and Aida Nelson Jun 19, 2019:
@ Ashok - Hepatitis? Good morning Ashok,

Does the file also mention that the patient suffers from hepatitis?

The reason I am asking is because, I found the abbreviation AgHBs in Spanish equivalent to hepatitis B surface antigen and I was wondering if something was missing in the source text.

However, I also think Helena's answer makes sense in this context.

Cheers, Aida

Elsewhere I have come across the following text.
Ashok Pipal (asker) Jun 19, 2019:
It's about eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori
philgoddard Jun 19, 2019:
You haven't actually said what this is about and what's being eradicated. But if you're correct about PAU, urea breath tests are used to detect the Helicobacter pylori bacterium.

SAT (stool antigen test)

Stool antigen tests (SATs) are noninvasive diagnostic modules for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. Two types of SATs exist for the diagnosis of H. pylori infection, one based on enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and another on immunochromatography (ICA). SATs do not require expensive chemical agents or specified equipment; hence, they are less expensive compared with the urea breath test. Both European and Japanese guidelines have shown that EIA-based SATs using monoclonal antibodies are useful for primary diagnosis as well as for the assessment of eradication therapy.

Diagnosis
Tests and procedures used to determine whether you have an H. pylori infection include:

Blood test. Analysis of a blood sample may reveal evidence of an active or previous H. pylori infection in your body. However, breath and stool tests are better at detecting active H. pylori infections than is a blood test.
Breath test. During a breath test, you swallow a pill, liquid or pudding that contains tagged carbon molecules. If you have an H. pylori infection, carbon is released when the solution is broken down in your stomach.

Your body absorbs the carbon and expels it when you exhale. You exhale into a bag, and your doctor uses a special device to detect the carbon molecules.

Acid-suppressing drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) and antibiotics can interfere with the accuracy of this test. Your doctor will ask you to stop taking those medications for a week or two weeks before you have the test. This test is available for adults and children.

Stool test. A laboratory test called a stool antigen test looks for foreign proteins (antigens) associated with H. pylori infection in your stool. As with the breath test, PPIs and bismuth subsalicylate can affect the results of this test, so your doctor will ask you to stop taking them for two weeks before the test.

COMPARISON OF STOOL ANTIGEN TEST MONOLAB® AND UREA BREATH TEST FOR DIAGNOSIS OF HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTION.

https://www.ueg.eu/education/document/comparison-of-stool-an...

Cosnautas is the most comprehensive online resource for Spanish medical acronyms. You would have found PAU there, but not AGH.

We also have a printed book of Spanish medical acronyms: Medical Abbreviations Spanish-English, by Ian Beattie, with over 14,000 acronyms plus the English equivalent of each. This one also lacks the meaning of AGH that you need here, but gives you PAU in Spanish as well as its English equivalent: Urea Breath Test (UBT).
