facts of the indictment

Not enough context provided to be sure.

consignacion: (2) Mexico filing of charges, laying of an information, indictment. Indictment is only a functional equivalent as there are no "grand juries" in Mexico.

neutral AllegroTrans : matters alleged? could be, but we simply don't have enough context and asker isn't providing it

You are right of course and I don't normally put an answer up when there is not enough context.

Spanish term (edited): hechos de la consignación

(US felony) counts > (UK) points > of the indictment

It would help to know the target audience as the procedure differs slightly Transatlantically and Down Under in Oz and N.Z.

The point about Grand Juries not existing in Mexico is otiose in the UK where a charge or indictment is not put to a jury.

In the case of an 'either way offenc/se' in England & Wales, the case may on the *charge sheet vs. indictment* go to summary trial in the Magistrates' Court (Scotland: Sheriff Court) or up to the Crown Court.

Example sentence:

An indictment is a criminal accusation that a person has committed a crime. Each offense usually is set out in a separate count.

An indictment is most frequently a charge of a serious crime. You may have heard on television legal programs the phrase "on the first count of the indictment ,"

Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : Always thought "counts" is equally UK term

Indeed, but I - having drafted English criminal indictments myself and unfamiliar with facts or matters alleged therein - wanted to steer clear of any hint of US felony (UK: serious, arrestable offence) counts.
