Physicochemical processing and biomechanical properties of bone allografts
There are numerous claims and theories on which is the most effective sterilization protocol for allogenic bone grafts, however, there are several features that all procedures applied for the fabrication of mineralized bone allografts in the EU have in common, whereby the most apparent being the target of these procedures: removal of living cells, cell debris, non-collagen proteins and complete inactivation of bacteria and viruses in order to achieve the required sterility assurance level (SAL) of 10-6, allowing for one colony-forming unit in 1.000.000 products.
