English term

Payroll Allotment

English to German Bus/Financial Accounting
Hallo zusammen,

Nico

Discussion

Rolf Keller Oct 27, 2018:
Es gibt in D einige Dinge, die per Lohnabzug bezahlt werden (können).

In der Liste steht aber auch "Cash" und "Debit Card", das schließt IMO diese Dinge aus (außer, wenn es Pfändungen sind).
Katja Schoone Oct 26, 2018:
@Birgit The insurance company my husband works for does offer payroll allotment out of the gross salary for a pension scheme apart from the corporate stock.
Birgit Gläser Oct 26, 2018:
only 2 options come to mind Payroll allotment is unusual in Germany as employers prefer the employees to manage their own finances and set up standing orders or direct debits. Off the cuff only two allotments come to my mind, for VWL/vermögenswirksame Leistungen which some companies offer as a rightout benefit and some offer to do as salary conversion... and payment of life insurance policies/Direktversicherung.... savings plans or loan payments would be rather unusual, unless e.g. for a corporate stock options savings plan or for paying off a loan granted by the employer...
Katja Schoone Oct 26, 2018:
@Anastasia Surely, we do have loan payoffs out of the salary.
Anastasia Schüle Oct 26, 2018:
@Katja
Thank you for the clarification, aaalmost makes me want to become an employee :) I guess it's still not 100% the same as the US model offers more options (loan payoff not possible in Germany I think), but close enough to call it Automatischer Abzug vom Gehalt.
Anastasia Schüle Oct 26, 2018:
Dauerauftrag isn't bad since at least it is something you set up yourself voluntarily to be paid automatically. On the other hand, Katja is right and it's missing the fact it gets paid by your employer from your salary before it lands in your own account. I am not sure Germany actually has this exact model - Katja? In any case, what's done is done :-]
Katja Schoone Oct 26, 2018:
@Nico Aus Dauerauftrag geht nicht hervor, dass es aus dem Gehalt direkt gezahlt wird, bevor es auf dem Konto landet. Solche Modelle gibt es bei uns auch.
Nico Wagner (asker) Oct 26, 2018:
Danke für den Vorschlag und die Erklärung Anastasia, ich musste den Auftrag inzwischen liefern und habe "Dauerauftrag" verwendet.

neutral Anastasia Schüle : Initially, I had the same idea, but "automatic deductions from salary" are usually taxes, insurances and compulsory retirement payments, whereas payment allotment is something I as an employee can set up for my own purposes (loan payoff, savings, etc.)

We do have this concept of voluntary deduction for pension schemes or the like. They are paid out of the gross salary which makes it very attractive.

Automatische Zahlung

Payroll allotment is a specific amount automatically deducted from your paycheck and electronically deposited to your savings or checking account. This can also be an automatic deduction going to your retirement account or paying off a loan or similar - an automatic payment you have to do monthly/beweekly. Allotments are an excellent way to “pay yourself first” and build a savings account because the funds are deducted before you receive your paycheck.

Automatische Zahlung? Pretty generic, unfortunately, but this allotment can be for a variety of things...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Katja Schoone : It's not just a "payment", the crucial thing is that the payment is made/deducted from your payroll.

Agree. I don't think there's exact same model in Germany though. A bit of a challenge Nico had :)
