German term

gegen 5 Stimmen

Non-PRO German to English Other Government / Politics Report on trades union conference
Der Verbandstag anerkannte gegen 5 Stimmen den Ausschluss von .....

I am confused as to whether this means 'by 5 votes' or 'with 5 votes against' - the latter seems to fit better with 'gegen'. No further detail is given on the voting.

The report dates form the 1930s and was probably written in Norwegian and translated, so some of the German is a bit stilted.

with 5 votes opposing

Can't imagine that the opposite would make sense here..
Note from asker:
That's what I thought, but it seemed odd not to mention how many were in favour as one can't get an idea of the overall vote.

agree Gordon Matthews : It is probably assumed that the reader knows, at least roughly, how many voting members were present. I would say "with 5 votes against", but that's just a quibble.
