I've found the linked news article which confirms my inclination, at least in US English. I have no idea what the British equivalent might be.

: Whatever the reaons (and I've read them) for arriving at this translation, I would ask the simple question "how many readers are likely to understand it?" Charles had some reservation in the discussion about this. No number of the jersey for instance.
