LT TGBT

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng Air treatment units
In an office building, air treatment units supply various areas, including the following: 'certains locaux techniques (LT TGBT, LT GE, machineries ...) permettant leur rafraîchissement'. I understand that 'TGBT' stands for 'tableau général basse tension', which I intend to translate as 'low voltage master distribution panel', as per a previous question, but it's the 'LT' I'm stuck on. Second question to follow for 'LT GE' if you don't mind :-)

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Johannes Gleim Aug 14, 2018:
@ Sarah The question has already been closed and the answer with most agrees has been selected.
But you can still enter your solution into the glossary.

In regard to your solution, please note that "tableau général basse tension" is the main switchboard as Tony pointed out. Distribution boards may be located downstream the main switchboard or are identical to it (if no downstream switchboards are used).
Tony M Aug 14, 2018:
@ Asker Your solution seems to me nearly spot on, but do please note that the key point of the TBBT is that it is the MAIN dis. board / switchboard, etc. — this aspect of 'main' translating 'général' (could also be 'overall', 'master', etc.) is technically quite important, as it expresses the hierarchy of the various distribution boards that may be included in the system as a whole. In some cases, FR uses separate terms for these which we don't normally use in EN.
Sarah Russell (asker) Aug 14, 2018:
Sorry for the delay Johannes but I have been away and/or very busy. I actually went with a combination of your suggestion and Tony's, opting for 'low-voltage distribution board plant room' so will happily wait before closing this question if you believe that this is correct and would like to post a suggestion to this effect.
Johannes Gleim Aug 8, 2018:
@ Sarah I think all the community is interested in knowing the proposal you cherished. It would be nice to keep us informed.

Service space
Definition
Service space means space provided in a building to facilitate or conceal the installation of building service facilities such as chutes ducts pipes shafts or wires.

An electrical room is a room or space in a building dedicated to electrical equipment. Its size is usually proportional to the size of the building; large buildings may have a main electrical room and subsidiary electrical rooms. Electrical equipment may be for power distribution equipment, or for communications equipment.[1]
Electrical rooms typically house the following equipment:
• Electric switchboards
• Distribution boards
• Circuit breakers and disconnects
• Electricity meter
• Transformers
• Busbars
• Backup batteries in a Battery room
• Fire alarm control panels
• Distribution frames

TGBT est un sigle qui désigne :

• Tableau Général Basse Tension. C'est le tableau électrique basse tension des grandes installations électriques.
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/TGBT

A distribution board (also known as panelboard, breaker panel, or electric panel) is a component of an electricity supply system that divides an electrical power feed into subsidiary circuits, while providing a protective fuse or circuit breaker for each circuit in a common enclosure. Normally, a main switch, and in recent boards, one or more residual-current devices (RCD) or residual current breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBO), are also incorporated.
In the United Kingdom, a distribution board designed for domestic installations is known as a consumer unit.[1]

The smallest distribution board of our xEnergy family is the most flexible and variable system in the entire range. The diversity of different types and sizes makes the use in almost every application possible. Thanks to its certification as low-voltage distribution board intended to be operated by ordinary persons acc. to IEC/EN 61439-1/3 as well as to IEC/EN 62208, the xEnergy B is the first choice for electrical distribution in residential and functional buildings.

neutral Tony M : 'technical room' is not really good, natural EN — and it doesn't come from Wiki (of which I am one of the native speaker expert editors!); your term comes from OAYE, railway sector; where it is specific jargon, but NOT for general office etc. buildings.

I added "main". Wikipedia articles are normally edited by native speakers who know the subject and terminology.

To Tony M (added 7/27): You provided a very good explanation of why I offered no translation. LT can be pretty much anything (from an electrical cabinet to a stand-alone building or an outdoor area). In this case the latter is not an option. But LT still may be any enclosed space, and, from what I've seen in the past, may be even called an "building services room/plant/area".
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Of course, it actually says it in the source text! BUT... you haven't actually offered a viable translation as asked. / Then in that case your point would be best made in a discussion comment.

plant room

or 'electrical cupboard' — it all depends on the actual size of the place! You may be able to glean further clues from the rest of your text (dimenions, floor plans, descriptions, etc.)

Basically, if it is big enough to need mechanical ventilation, then in my book it probably qualifies as a 'plant room'.

You may want to think again about your propsoed translation for 'TGBT' — although your suggestion would certainly be right in some contexts, it sounds as if your context here may be rather larger in scale, and as such, this could well be a lot more than just a mere 'panel' — you need to try and look for clues as to how large it is and what it actually contains?

There are plenty of examples of 'plant room' out there on the 'Net — here's just one that happens to mention it in a document discussing electrical installations.
Npte that in general terms, a low-voltage dis. board is often located in a (probably its own) plant room, which might or might not contain other plant at the same time.

In EN, a 'plant room' is a special area, usually with a more 'utilitarian' finish (and certainly not intended to be visited by the general public!) intended for housing 'plant' — i.e. any kind of technical equipment (which may or may not be electrical in nature)

This is a generic term and can refer to room-spaces of many sizes; what makes it a 'room' rather than a 'cupboard' is in essence simply whether or not you can physically walk into it. It can be used for HVAC plant, boilers, swimming-pool plant, emergency generators, computer or telecoms interconnections, etc. Hence its usefulness as a catch-all term if it is not possible or desirable to be more specific.

'plant' is a general term for any kind of 'technical equipment', and is common jargon in e.g. the building industry.
