Interesting... The owner of the Velcro fastener patent is adamant about how the term should be used, which has resulted in generalized adoption of the term 'hook-and-loop fastener/-ing'. That wouldn't fit here, of course, but the term really should not be used casually.

This reminds me of a conversation I once had with a surgeon when I asked him about some slightly objectionable terminology in a translation I was working on. Not only did he confirm the language, but he went on to add: "You don't even want to know some of the words we use to describe things."

Which suggests that the terms they use may need to be "cleaned up" in documents used for formal purposes.
