The product placement here is intended to show the audience that something negative happens to the hero (with whom the viewers subconsciously associate themselves) if he/she does NOT use a certain product. I can't think of an actual examlple from a movie, but imagine someone's sick and refuses or is unable to use a certain medication/treatment. So their condition deteriorates or they die. Product placement here would be inserting a pharmaceutical brand name, with an intention to show that, supposedly, had the hero used their product, things may have taken an entirely different turn.

scare tactics "Product placement in film categories." Product placement is an agreement between a manufacturer and a filmmaker to show the product in the movie. There has been research on which category of film is most effective for this purpose - action, romance, comedy, etc. The conclusion seems to be that action films are best because the audience's memory of the product is strongest when the audience is scared. Thus, Red Sparrow drives a BMW or James Bond drives an Aston Martin. However, the product must be depicted as something that helps or protects the hero, rather than endangering them.
