Spanish term

CAD

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals Ethics Committee Letters
These are documents that were approved by an Ethics Committee for assessing efficacy and bone safety of a drug in older patients with type 2 DM:

"Instrucciones sobre higiene GU/hidratacion/CAD para varones"
"Instrucciones sobre higiene GU/hidratacion/CAD para mujeres"

Discussion

Neil Ashby May 10, 2018:
Yes I was fairly sure but I didn't have time to find hard evidence of DKA in type II DM, as I mentioned it is apparently quite rare - and as your own reference points out "hace referencia a una descompensación de la diabetes mellitus tipo I que".
I must admit, I find it perplexing that you give it a confidence of 5 then agree with something different...
I agree with your take on the "instructions.... blah, blah... for men / women", clearly there are two separate sets of instuctions because of the GU hygiene.
David Brown May 10, 2018:
CAD = DKA Trust your instinct, Neil, and then follow it through
"Instrucciones sobre higiene GU/hidratacion/CAD para varones"
"Instrucciones sobre higiene GU/hidratacion/CAD para mujeres"
This only means there is a separate instruction sheet for males and females, not that any of the them are gender dependent (except perhaps GU hygiene
Neil Ashby May 4, 2018:
Here's a few possibilities from Cosnautas:

7 centro de atención a diabéticos || ≡ UAD (unidad de atención a diabéticos)
9 cetoacidosis diabética || ≡ CD || ◊ DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis)
16 colesterol de alta densidad || ≡ cHDL (colesterol de las HDL)
21 cuidados de alta dependencia

If I had to guess, I'd say "cetoacidosis diabética" is more likely, but after reading around (for 30 seconds, no more) it seems this is quite rare in type 2 DM.
Maybe "cuidados de alta dependencia" applies because they are elderly patients?

neutral philgoddard : I don't think this justifies a 5, since we can't be sure. The other two items are about how to look after yourself.

the "5" is "my" confidence level, although the confusing part is for males and females, but all diabetics have to be aware of DKA and hypos

Cuidados al Alta para diabéticos= diabetic outpatient care

Once again we are stumped by the acronyms and can rely not only on the very thorough research from excellent sources like Neil and others, but we must venture to provide meaning to some of these acronyms in the context of the text provided. In this case, it seems the authors are trying to convey that the diabetic patient be provided with instructions regarding Genitourinary care, hydration and perhaps diabetic outpatient care for either of the genders.
Peer comment(s):

agree David Brown : ..of course the "mujeres" "varones" could refer to the GU hygiene......

Yes it does David. The reason why I chose my answer is that the condition known as DKA is gender neutral so employing that reasoning, there is not a DKA for males and one for females so the acronym must mean something different from DKA.
