That's a good idea. But I really think that in this case, it is called Schlafsack for historical reasons. Since "cloak" came to silvia's mind, it is probably an evolution that is wearable for more extended periods - trendy in a LoTR way and convertible such that one doesn't need serious Sackhüpfen skills to get around.

PS2 Here's one more German source:
"Die letzten aktiven Erfahrungen habe ich mit meinem Ansitzschlafsack (BW-Ärmelmodell) bei bis ca, -2°C angenehm geschlafen während ich auf die Rehe / Schweine wartete zum fotografieren."
https://www.outdoorseiten.net/forum/archive/index.php/t-3035...

That you don't think we all just like shooting deer :)

BW=Bundeswehr. So if the British don't have anything for hunting (I couldn't find something), then maybe the military clothing section will help you out.

I don't like "sleeping bag," because it indicates, at least for Americans, a replacement for a bed, for example while camping. If the hunter is sleeping, he is sitting up while doing so, and I don't even believe that he would be napping in the tree stand. The purpose is to keep the feet and legs warm when not moving for a long time. It's a "wearable sack," and it works (I tried it out with a Nikolaussack - unfortunately only a Fußsack on me) :)
Björn Vrooman Apr 15, 2018:
PS The only difference I could think of: Ansitzsack is missing the hood. But some Ansitzsäcke seem to have one; so it isn't all that clear.
Björn Vrooman Apr 15, 2018:
Hello Silvia I'm no hunter and I don't necessarily trust a Google search, but Ansitzsack seems to be the common version, while Ansitzschlafsack gets very few hits. Here's Ansitzsack:
https://www.frankonia.com/jagd/ausruestung/jagdbedarf/koerpe...

Looks the same to me too.

And a simple "sleeping bag" is still wrong, IMO. You may get to hide/blind, but to "mummy shape." This is from a UK company:
http://www.military1st.co.uk/sb122-highlander-cadet-350-camp...

Have a look at their selection:
http://www.military1st.co.uk/camping-and-survival-sleeping-g...

Nothing comparable in there, I'd say.

However, herbalchemist's mentioning of babies got me an idea. That's kind of similar:
https://www.planetcamping.co.uk/selkbag.html

It's a "sleep(ing) suit," not just for children. Similarly (first one): https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/812759063973535857

May not work, though. Else: "wearable" or "with sleeves" (see below). She's right that you need something.

Hi Silvia Elias and Bjoern (and Phil's complaints) also helped.
I think something like "wearable blanket" might be a good start. A classic example of the Ansitz(schlaf)sack is on page 12-13.
https://issuu.com/bayerwald-jagd-mode/docs/bayerwald-jagd-mo...
It's not usually something you want to be seen wearing outside of the Hochsitz. Just like Snuggies are relegated to the sofa.

Thank you herbalchemist for all your input. In fact, I have Ansitzsäcke and Ansitzschlafsäcke in this text, and to be honest, I see no difference :-( I like the "cloak" version, probably because this was my original idea ....

I am translating into Brit En.
Herbmione Granger Apr 12, 2018:
Yes I'm curious about the target market. If it's for typical US hunters, you'll need to heavily adjust from "teasled loden" (from related Question). If it is intended for some strange cosplay and there's no means of walking around, something like "[adjective] sack" would be more appropriate.
Yes, it's like a baby sleep sack (which I never heard till now), except that it's insulated and the baby *wants* to be in it and at the same time wants to be able to shoot things that move.
Björn Vrooman Apr 12, 2018:
@herbalchemist Actually, you can call this a hunting sleeping bag or even tactical sleeping bag, but do you see what they did here:
https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/guide-gear-hun...
https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/hq-issue-tacti...

They said "with sleeves/arms" because otherwise, you'd be ending up at:
https://www.tetonsports.com/Sleeping-Bags/Canvas/Deer-Hunter...

Thus, it's important to add something, as you did.

From the other question, I assume it looks more traditional.

The point is that I can go to Walmart in my pajamas, but I probably won't be able to buy a decent Ansitzschlafsack there. From the reviews, people don't buy this for sleeping.

If you run around in a sleeping bag, I guess that works.

neutral philgoddard : Whatever this product looks like, it's a sleeping bag. I don't see Schlafsack in either of your references.

I didn't know that you knew so much about hunting culture in Germany. Even though you didn't ask nicely, I added two references.
agree Lancashireman : More convincing than a sleeping hunting bag.

agree Björn Vrooman : See disc. I think this qualifies as most helpful, since it's not "just" a sleeping bag.

hunting sleeping bag

I'm no hunter, but I'd be tempted to call this what it is. I'm not sure there would be any difference to the sleeping bag depending on where the hunter uses it. But as I said, I'm no hunter...
Peer comment(s):

agree TonyTK : Lots of good hits for this ...

agree philgoddard : I think "hunter's" is better, to avoid having two words ending in "-ing".

agree jccantrell : From the USA, either 'hunter' or 'hunting' and we call it a 'hunting blind' over here, not a 'hide.'
