Norwegian to English Medical Human Resources sick leave
Hi

So, my understanding from NAV.no is that this a sick note from a doctor etc. that says if some changes were made by your employer you could go back to work. But I have not found an English translation for this/cannot think of one!

Any help greatly received
Many thanks

Discussion

Paul Armitage Mar 17, 2018:
pending sick leave? Just discussion at this point as I really have no idea if we have such a thing in the UK and wouldn't know what it's called elsewhere in the English-speaking world. Norwegian sources are using 'pending sick leave'. For example: "Medical certificates for pending sick leave inform the employer that sick leave can be avoided if changes are made to the work. If such changes are not possible and the employee takes full sick leave, the doctor will alter the pending sick leave to ordinary sick leave. The medical certificate will then apply from the start date of the pending sick leave."

reasonable adjustments

The employer must make reasonable adjustments to accommodate disability at work.

For example, a friend of mine went back to work after 3.5 years of cancer treatment. When she started back first her hours were reduced to facilitate her return to work.

From the second reference:
“This section outlines some processes and
practical examples which can be used to
encourage people to return to work after
an absence due to an illness or injury
which has caused a disability.”

“Often, when someone has been absent
due to an injury, there are both physical
and psychological issues
that require attention in order to promote a healthy
return to work at full capacity.
By making adaptations you are helping the
person to adapt back to the workplace,
assisting in their ability to do their work
competently and ensuring that their
ongoing health and safety needs are
aligned to your work requirements.”
