Swedish term

kontant

Swedish to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
Hello

in the sentence:

Köpeskillingen för aktierna uppgår till 1 MSEK ***kontant*** och 24 798 stycken aktier i XXX AB

I'm not sure about kontant as it is not "in cash" or anything similar

Is it the ***face** value of the shares (quoted in a currency)?

Thanks

Discussion

SafeTex (asker) Mar 1, 2018:
@all Thanks for your help. I looked at this on the Internet and the same question is asked again and again but in round about ways like which one is right; Pay Cash or Pay in Cash
And the answers vary as doe the interpretations of the phrases. I'm going to choose "In cash" and take it as "no other securities, exchange notes, bonds etc. were used to pay for the shares but the voting shows that even translators are not clear on this alas.
allan_ctrcool Mar 1, 2018:
Kontant Kontant = cash (real cash) in the form of original currency notes, coins.
Agneta Pallinder Mar 1, 2018:
kontant v. kontanter We should perhaps also bear in mind the distinction between "kontant" payment, payment "in cash", not in kind, and "kontanter", which is cash in the sense of banknotes and coins.
Michael Ellis Mar 1, 2018:
In Cash "In cash" fits the context here, but 'cash' is better as the generic term - see the latest in https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/feb/27/comcast-murdoc...
Agneta Pallinder Feb 28, 2018:
Cash as opposed to kind A bank transfer would also be "in cash", as opposed to payment in kind, i.e. in this case shares, who have a face value, but whose trading value could go up and/or down.
SafeTex (asker) Feb 28, 2018:
@ Sven and Agneta Hello

I don't know Swedish law but due to anti money laundering legislation in general, I had rejected any idea of paying such a large amount "in cash". Do you really mean "in cash" as opposed to a bank transfer for instance?

in cash

The payment is in two parts: one million SEK in cash (bank transfer or whatever) plus 24,798 shares in XXX AB. So the payment is partly in cash, partly in kind.

agree George Hopkins : True, but I consider 'in cash' to be explicit...
