I think you may have a typo: should it be "entschieden" instead of "entscheiden" (present perfect tense)? In twelve years of practicing law in the U.S., I found that this term was consistently used in court proceedings and administrative hearings to describe a case being thrown out. You are more likely to hear/read that an argument or claim has been rejected, but when referring to the entire case, you will hear the term "dismissed." If the case is dismissed without prejudice, it may be reinitiated through the filing of a new petition. If the case is dismissed with prejudice, no new petition asserting the same claims may be refiled.

I should add that if the case was heard on the merits and not dismissed early on (e.g. on a motion to dismiss or a motion for summary judgment), you would be more likely to say that the court decided the case against the petitioner. The court would still be dismissing the plaintiff's/petitioner's claims, but on the basis of evidence.

Thanks. I thought an explanation of why it's not simply abgewiesen would be nice. Anyway, "dismissed" has been presented 3 times now.
