Spanish term

dar en caución títulos

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s)
Hola compañeros! Estoy trabajando con un estatuto y ya en el final del mismo aparece la frase: "Dar en caución títulos, acciones u otros efectos; suscribir letras en caución".

Alguien podría darme una mano con esos términos? Muchas gracias!

escrow

Difficult to be sure without more context, but my understanding of "en caucion" would be that these things (deeds, etc.) are to be kept in the custody of a third party until a particular condition has been met. If this is right, then it would be "escrow deeds, shares etc."
Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : Doesn't "caución" suggest they are being held as security rather than on escrow, which is quite different?

neutral Andrew Sharp : I agree with AllegroTrans. I would say the assets mentioned are given in surety or guarantee which is not quire 'escrow'

disagree AllegroTrans : collateral cannot be used in the plural in this way and the securities are not transferred, merely held
