Spanish term

moldear

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Imaging
This verb comes up a few times on an MRI of the lumbar spine from Mexico. Examples:

"Se moldea la emergencia nerviosa y el trayecto subarticular de L5 derecha [...] También se moldea el trayecto nervioso extraforaminal de L4 en el lado derecho."

How is "se moldea" being used here?

Marie Wilson Nov 1, 2017:
It is a tricky one! However, this is something I have a lot of experience with as I've had 2 back surgeries and several MRIs, and the spinal MRIs are nearly always about compression. The use of moldear is confusing though!

Here's some more context: "Engrosamiento de ligamentos amarillos. Se moldea la emergencia nerviosa y el trayecto subarticular de L5 derecha, se desplaza la contralateral. También se moldea el trayecto nervioso extraforaminal de L4 en el lado izquierdo. En conjunto se disminuye la amplitud del conducto raquídeo un 20% aproximadamente."

Please provide a couple of sentences before and after your context, in Spanish.

compress

I'm not familiar with the use of "moldear" here but from the context it seems like compression.
I think "Se moldea la emergencia nerviosa" probably means "comprime la raíz nerviosa".

I've had another look and I'm more convinced that moldear here means indent or compress.

"Engrosamiento de ligamentos amarillos. Se moldea la emergencia nerviosa."
Related:
"The ligamentum flavum lacks nociceptors.
If there is a lesion or inflammation, it is not symptomatic or painful. Therefore, when it gets too thick and compresses nerve roots or the spinal cord, it usually is found in an advanced stage, which often requires surgery."
