German term

Hintergreifbolzen

German to English Tech/Engineering Retail
Hi everyone,

I cannot find the translation for "Hintergreifbolzen", a type of bolt used on the hinge side of a safe door. Below is the segment to be translated:

"Der Tresor ist mit 2 Hintergreifbolzen auf der Scharnierseite ausgestattet".

Thanks in advance,

Helene

dead bolt

Research on the Web reveals numerous manufacturers of gun safes and other safes that have "dead bolts on the hinge side" to prevent the safe being forced open with a crowbar at the side opposite the "active locking bolts".

Your copy unfortunately doesn't indicate whether the dead bolts are active or inactive.

BTW: active locking bolts on the side where the safe door is opened are retracted into the door when you unlock the safe. Dead bolts on the hinge side are fixed and slot into holes in the body of the safe (in other areas, these are also called "Zapfen" in German)
