English term

wander all over

English to French Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng PCB design
Bonjour,

Je traduis un article sur la conception de circuits imprimés et je ne sais pas comment traduire correctement l'expression "wander all over" lorsqu'il est question d'émissions conductrices.

Voici la phrase dont elle est issue, pour plus de contexte:

You may see traces with annoying little jogs, corners, and stubs, as well as traces that have wandered all over the board.

Merci de vos suggestions!

neutral Tony M : To me, that rather conveys 'sprinkle' or 'dot', not like something linear that snakes around all over the place...

neutral Daryo : you lose the idea of a continuous line

serpenter un peu partout

I think this conveys the (semi-!) technical nuance clearly intended here!
Peer comment(s):

agree Daryo : instead of taking the shortest / optimal path // un tracé en zig-zag / au parcours plein de méandres etc ...

Merci, Daryo ! Yes, quite! We might equally well say 'snaking' in EN, but 'wandering' suggests the pointlessness of it!
neutral GILLES MEUNIER : ça ne se dirait pas en français

So what would be your suggestion then?
