Spanish term

acomodamientos

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Medical ultrasound
This is in a report on ultrasound of lower limbs, from Colombia. I have been unable to get a feel for the sense of this term in this context:

"DESCRIPCION:

I get "placas" all right, but can't come up with an appropriate English equivalent for "acomodamientos" - the common English terms "adjustment" or "accommodation" don't seem to work here. At one point I thought of "alteration" for "acomodamiento", but then there's "alteración" later in the sentence, which would make "...alterations that can produce alteration..."
All help greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

Discussion

Thomas Walker (asker) Sep 4, 2017:
Good thought, Charles "Acodamientos" certainly makes more sense than "acomodamientos" in this context, & "acodamiento" seems to be used in a variety of contexts in the sense of "bend" or "kink." For "acodamiento", the DRAE has 'Acción y efecto de acodar (‖ doblar en forma de codo)."', where "codo" is "elbow."
Interesting that the fairly uptown Peruvian reference that you tracked down includes the confusion between the two terms.
Charles Davis Sep 3, 2017:
Following on from Marie's reference... ...might this simply be a typo for "acodamientos"? It clearly is in the following:

"Resistencia a Acomodamientos: La distancia entre stents de acero inoxidable ha sido aumentada para conferir mayor resistencia a acodamientos a la prótesis Zenith Flex. Los ramas ilíacas Flex rediseñadas recientemente han aumentado también la resistencia a acodamientos, empleándose z-stents de acero inoxidable más cortos además de aumentar la distancia entre stents."

I've found a mention of bucles, whcih might fit in with Robert's suggestion, of kinks etc.

displacement / abnormal placement

Hi Tom. To me, it brings to mind something like squashing, bunching, squeezing, compression or kinks in the blood vessels, or them simply not being in their correct position. The best I can come up with is "displacement" or "abnormal placement".

Steadman's Medical Dict. has:
displacement
1. Removal from the normal location or position.

On the other hand, perhaps it refers to an embolus, i.e., something stuck being lodged (acomodado) inside the vessels, though if that were the case, I'd expect this technical term to be used instead.

loops

My guess, inspired by Marie's discussion comment ("bucle"). Although "vascular/arterial loops" seem to be related to the brain and hearing processes rather than the limbs...
Example sentence:

MRI found no evidence of a tumor but surprisingly identified a “vascular loop” occupying some of the space

(internal) lesions

The translation is far from literal, but what is meant hear is something "accomodated" inside the vessel lumen.
Peer comment(s):

agree Leda Roche : I think this is the most eclectic of the options:internal lesions.
