En unos resultados de laboratorio aparece lo siguiente:

No he podido descifrar a qué se refieren con "EL.".
Les agradezco de antemano cualquier ayuda o indicación con este término.
El informe es de un hospital de Sevilla, España.

@all I'd do that, but this job was for an agency, so I delivered the document with a comment. I think "encargado de laboratorio" makes sense here. Would that be "laboratory manager"? Not sure. Anyway, thank you all for your comments. They're much appreciated. :-)

That much is beyond me, it could be as Robert suggested, that there are 3 different destinos. I don't know if the tests are analysed in an external lab, and then sent back to the hospital; it's often the case that public hospitals subcontract private services. Anyway, I asked my neighbour who works for the Servicio Andaluz de Salud, and she hasn't got a clue.

Okay Marie, fair point and good examples - but aren't they cases of nursing units that work for the Biochem/Micro/A&E and 'Sample Collection' Labs as opposed to labs that work for (or under the orders of) the nurses?

Hi Neil, just brainstorming, and trying to fit a term to the initials, and as I said, I'm not sure what the English equivalent would be. I don't know exactly what this department does but it exists. My experience of hospitals is nurses do most of the paperwork. Here's a reference:
f) Unidad de Enfermería de Bioquímica, Microbiología, Urgencias y Extracciones de Laboratorio, que pasa a denominarse Unidad de Enfermería de Laboratorio A.
g) Unidad de Enfermería de Laboratorios, que pasa a denominarse Unidad de Enfermería de Laboratorio B.
h) Unidad de Enfermería de Laboratorio, que pasa a denominarse Unidad de Enfermería de Laboratorio C.

I don't believe nurses order lab tests; they collect, label and send samples to the labs but only under instructions from doctors, no? In other words, I don't think there is a lab answering solely to the nurses requests.

FWIW I reckon "Encargado de Lab." makes more sense.

By the way, given the syntax, don't you think they might be three different "destinos", EL, URGENCIAS and SECRETARIA?

I agree with David about the L being possibly laboratorio. Another idea is Enfermería de Laboratorio.

"Emergency lab" would work if the source was in English, but "EL." is supposed to be in Spanish. I think "Enfermería de laboratorio", as suggested by Marie Wilson, would be a good possibility here.
