scoured out

I'm guessing a bit, but when it's moraine in Sweden it is probably washed out by the meltwater from the ice age.

wave-washed tills

I asked my son-in-law, he's a geologist.
Peer comment(s):

agree KirstyMacC (X) : wave-washed moraines also Google well. My problem is having learned over 30 years ago - from an Austrian Prof. - the 'moraines' geography of the N. Germ and Scand. area.

Thank you, although I think 'tills' is more to the point.

Also:
Swedish geologists distinguish between bottengrus (bottom gravel, bottom moraine) and ordinary krossgrus (terminal and side moraine). The former generally consists of a hard and compact mass of rounded, scratched and sometimes polished stones firmly embedded in a powder of crushed rock. The latter is less compact and contains angular boulders, often of a considerable size, but no powder.
