La idea es predecir o anticipar como funcionan los órganos y como reaccionan a diversos fármacos, por lo que sugiero esta opción

There are many possible options. The general idea is that these organs-on-chip allow researchers to study (the effect of drugs on) organs in a controlled environment before studying real organs.

Gracias a todos por sus comentarios. Si bien "highly anticipated" se usa con el sentido que propuse con bastante frecuencia en textos paralelos, pude encontrar el texto fuente y, efectivamente, también he llegado a la conclusión de que la interpretación de Neil es la correcta. Muchas gracias.
