English term

try again

Non-PRO English to French Other Games / Video Games / Gaming / Casino
"Essayer encore une fois" - is this correct for "try again" (like trying again same level in a game, when you lose) as a label for the button?

I think your suggestion is less than ideal.

This is one suggestion to be found in any decent dictionary.

It does depend a bit on the context, e.g. is it for example saying "Bad luck, try again!" or is this label on the actual button to click to start a new game? Either way, this could work... but you might get a better answer if you could be more specific.

Although I am not particularly familiar with the world of video gaming, this sort of expression is often used in the world of computers, espeicllay when, for example, an install or donwload has failed, and you are invited to 'try again', with a button to the effect, alongside 'annuler' etc.

This also has the advantage of being able to be read as "(I want to) Try again", which may be appropriate for a button label.

Essaie encore

C'est l'exacte expression française employée dans les jeux du type jeux vidéo, etc.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Surely that's really a bit more like "Keep on trying!" — which could fit in certain contexts, but not necessarily all.

Retente ta chance

I think this applies specifically to the world of video games. I wouldn't use it for an install or download button
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : Yes, see this a lot on store promotion 'games' where you have to check your coupn to see if you've won, and this is exactly what they say for "Bad luck, you haven't won this time... try again!"
