Każdy typ złącza występuje w dwóch rodzajach: UPC (ang. Ultra Physical Contact) oraz APC (ang. Angled Physical Contact).
Różnica tych rodzajów złącz polega na spolerowaniu czoła ferruli złącza.
W przypadku UPC jest ono płaskie, w APC czoło złącza polerowane jest pod kątem 8 stopni.
Dzięki temu, zachodzące przy przejściu światła przez granicę ośrodków zjawisko reflektancji (odbite od granicy ośrodka światło wraca do nadajnika tłumiąc użyteczny sygnał).

With PC ferrules, we commonly measure three geometry parameters: Radius, Apex Offset, and Fiber Height. With APC ferrules, we measure these three plus two more: Angle and Key Error.
Understanding and controlling APC ferrule geometry values get a bit more complicated than with PC ferrules. Not only are the ferrules polished at an angle, but that angle must be oriented in a specific rotational orientation (relative to the connector “key”). Furthermore, APC ferrules vary in shape (Conical-tip and step-tip).
