Your affairs are so complicated in Greece!!! Since we have come to this stage, please give me an example of your Φ.Α.Ε.Ε., so I have it in mind. I'll be thankful. It sounds complicated, no wonder ordinary mortals do not pay it, they do not understand it, perhaps. Οι μάγκες δεν πληρώνουν φόρους!!
Vasileios Paraskevas Jul 29, 2016:
Two things are blatantly clear: 1) This tax is NOT INCOME TAX (φόρος εισοδήματος). 2) This tax is a SPECIAL TAX applied to the self-employed ON AMOUNTS THAT THEY ARE PAID FOR SERVICES THEY PROVIDE AS SELF-EMPLOYED PERSONS. Self-employed persons pay income tax AND this special tax. Alas, there is no direct translation for "φόρος ελευθέρων επαγγελματιών" into English, because this type of tax obviously does not exist in the UK tax system. What we do have to give our friend SGOUZA, though, is a clear interpretation of the MEANING of this term IN ENGLISH, so that any English speaker, whether in the UK, Brazil or Outer Mongolia, can understand what this type of tax is. For any further clarifications, please refer to specialists...

A self-employed man is meant to work on his own and gets 'αμοιβές'=payments for that work done. That is EARNED income. Rental Income and all that is NOT EARNED INCOME, and is taxed separately. One has to decide if 'αμοιβές'= payments for services rendered. If so, then Income Tax is paid. That's the way income tax is computed and levied in the UK. Could it be different in Greece?
Vasileios Paraskevas Jul 28, 2016:
income vs. fees This cannot be income tax. It is tax imposed on the self-employed for the fees they charge. For example, a self-employed person (who legally provides translation services, issues receipts for those FEES and pays tax on those fees) may also rent out a property; the money he makes from that property would be part of his income, but he wouldn't pay φόρο ελευθέρων επαγγελματιών on that.

I did!
