Spanish term

hemograma con ligera monocitos

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Instruments hematology
This comes from a list of the tests the specialist performed on their patient. The hemogram (CBC) part makes sense, but "con ligera monocitos" does not even make grammatical sense to me.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Depending on the case, it may be an elevation or a decrease. If you can find out, take note of what may cause the patient to have either an elevation or a low number of monocytes. If it were a chronic infection, it is most likely an elevation. If it were a bone marrow disorder, it is most likely a decrease. See reference. http://www.merckmanuals.com/home/blood-disorders/white-blood-cell-disorders/monocyte-disorders"

haemogram/hemogram with low monocyte count

Or simply "with low monocytes"

Q:
What do low monocytes indicate?
A:
Quick Answer

A low number of monocytes in the blood usually indicates an increased risk for infections. A low monocyte blood count may occur because of a range of diseases that affect the bone marrow, such as rheumatoid arthritis, HIV or lupus. Know More

http://www.medfriendly.com/monocyte.html
WHAT CAUSES THE MONOCYTE LEVEL TO BE TOO LOW?

When the monocyte level is too low, this is known as monocytopenia. Because monocytes are produced
in the bone marrow, any illness or chemical that affects the bone marrow can cause a low monocyte
count.

or you could go the other "haemogram with monocytopaenia" see also the second reference above (or "hemogram with monocytopenia", if for US).

haemogram shows slight monocytosis

The Spanish doesn't make sense. I would suggest "monocitosis" because of "ligera", which is feminine.

Hi Megan, thanks for your comment. I know the report cited "monocitos", but the previous word, "ligera" is an adjective, and it's feminine, so it cannot be modifying the word "monocitos", which is masculine. This shows there is a problem with the original, and my guess is the word should be "monocitosis" because "monocitos" are normally present in blood, so a "slight evidence of monocytes" doesn't make sense from the medical point of view, while a slight increase, that is, a "slight monocytosis" would. I hope this helps :-)
Note from asker:
Hello! Thank you for your answer. The report cited "monocitos" rather than "monocitosis" so it is not monocytosis.
