English translation: crafters of premium/fine/high-end/high-quality (etc.) products

German to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Food & Drink / Candy Store
German term or phrase: Edelmanufakturen
"Das in Deutschlands Norden ansässige Familienunternehmen ABC registriert aufmerksam, wie sich das Feld der kleinen Edelmanufakturen immer mehr ausdünnt und setzt daher seit Jahren erfolgreich auf modernste Produktions- und Qualitätssicherungsprozesse."

From a short article about a candy store using a company's compressors (written by the compressor). This is not the technical part though, so I've put this question in Bus/Financial rather than Tech/Engineering. Anyway, I can't make head or tail of the word "Edelmanufakturen" and can't find a credible translation for it anywhere. TIA for any light you can shed on it.

Explanation:
No matter how you put it, it seems like the candy company has traded quality for mechanics.

Asker: I'm not really convinced by "classic", and dict.cc is the only dictionary to suggest that for "edel". Also, the Manufakturen part of the word is a plural noun rather than a verb. It's more like small high-end ... something (I'm still having a lot of trouble with Manufakturen).

fine quality manufacturing

Explanation:
"Fine" is often used as a translation for "edel" in a confectionery context, so I've used it here.

Definitely small, high-end. Maybe something about "small batch"? I agree that manufacturer/manufacturing may not be the right word: producer/processor? And maybe "luxury".

Small luxury/high-end producer of fine confectionery?

Notes to answerer
Asker: I think the "Manufakturen" part of the word is the plural of "Manufaktur", which is a noun rather than a verb. It's preceded by the adjective "klein", so I think it's more a sense of small high-end something-or-other (factories is the most common dictionary suggestion, but I'm not very keen on that).

genuine artisanship

Explanation:
May be another way of expressing this.

The example I found actually seems to think confectionery is going in the opposite direction to your candy store.

Example sentence(s):
  • Why? Well, first off, our palates are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with many of us no longer settling for mass-produced products. Instead, more and more consumers are looking for hand-made sweets - the fruits of genuine artisanship.
