the basic meaning of zacht = soft. as I said, though, it's a poem, and so there are a probably a thousand different more poetic ways of putting this ("fine", "sensitive", "with a soft touch", "delicate", "light", etc.). / I don't understand what you mean.

I take it you mean that you don't think that any of the following six options would work:
1. soft,
2. fine,
3. sensitive,
4. with a soft touch,
5. delicate,
6. light

What do you propose? What do you think the term "sagt" means here, in Dutch?

I can't find "sagt" under: "Mod. Ned. trefwoord" or "Origineel trefwoord", but plenty of hits under:
"Woord in betekenis", "Woord in citaat" and "Woord in artikel".

e.g.: ”De hardgebuykte zijn veelsints gulsig en bot. Een sagt en ingedrukten buyk geeft de grootheyd van 't gemoed en deugd te kennen”, goeree, Menschk. 170.

Not in Groote Van Dale but an old spelling for zacht is the only thing that comes to mind. This surmise is reinforced by the fact that siet is obviously ziet so z-s interchange is already there in this passage.

It's a poem, and about a painting, so there is of course no one correct way to translate this word. But the general meaning seem to be that of soft, gentle, etc. Since it's about a paintbrush, maybe sth like "fine" (or "sensitive") would work better. Or maybe sth with "soft touch", "delicate", or "light". Basically just consult a good thesaurus and play around a bit ;-)
