This leads us to another important aspect of the use of seals. If, as the principal of a college, I use the college seal to give validity to a diploma we are awarding, then I must be careful that I do not let the seal fall into the wrong hands, for whoever has that seal effectively has my authority. On the other hand, if I entrust the seal to a loyal staff-member, by giving them the seal I delegate my authority to them.
