Spanish term

\"Indios canadienses\"

Discussion

John Detre Nov 11, 2015:
Yes, I totally agree, it is definitely possible to find examples of terms that many people consider pejorative on the Internet. But does this mean we necessarily have to use them? Why use an offensive term when perfectly comprehensible, inoffensive alternatives exist? Unless one is deliberately trying to offend. But Asker classified her question in Anthropology, and "tribe" is not a term that any anthropologist would use today.
lugoben Nov 11, 2015:
John Detre On line there are enough documents that discuss the subject under Canadian tribes designation. Any of them cannot avoid the use of the term while considering he number of tribes that make up First Nations. Neither can one turn a blank eye that it doesn't exist. As it is, these people have been subjected to great pain, abandonment and shame way past any pejorative use of terms.
John Detre Nov 11, 2015:
@ lugoben Presumably, English speakers are the target audience for the English translation. Where in the English-speaking world is "tribes" not considered pejorative?

Combinación de idiomas incorrecta. Debes publicar la pregunta en el par español->inglés.

Canadian First Nations

I find it outrageous to read that term "indios", some people may think it refers to Canadians with an Indian background. The accurate translation is Canadian First Nations (Capitals) - I studied Anthropology
Example sentence:

A Canadian First Nations woman who won this year's Mrs. Universe pageant is urging indigenous people to vote in the October federal election

We have had so many people write and ask for Canadian Indian Tribes that I have put this small site together in hopes you will find some of your ancestors.

También se les llama Canadian Aboriginal Peoples

Aboriginal peoples in Canada, or Aboriginal Canadians, are the indigenous peoples within the boundaries of present-day Canada. They comprise the First Nations,[2] Inuit[3] and Métis.[4] The descriptors "Indian" and "Eskimo" have somewhat fallen into disuse in Canada and are sometimes considered pejorative.

neutral John Detre : As Wikipedia says, "Indian" is often considered pejorative. "Tribes" is pretty much always considered pejorative: "nations" or "peoples" are the preferred terms // see my comment in Discussion

First nations people

This is the preferred term these days for the old term "indian". Check out the Inuit website given below for an in-depth review of the terms First Nations, aboriginal people, aboriginal peoples, etc.
The government of Canada website is in agreement with their definitions, it seems.

neutral John Detre : "Aboriginal" is widely used but it does not mean exactly the same thing. Aboriginal includes not only First Nations but also Inuit and Métis, who are not "indios."
