English term

\"high wye\" connection

English to French Tech/Engineering Patents Moteur électrique ca/cc à haute efficacité et système de génération d\'électricité à vitesse variable
As previously noted, an exemplary generator can be configured for 3 phase, 2 phase, single phase alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) power generation. In the present example, a 3 phase AC current implementation is shown. Accordingly, a depiction of the internal wiring connections of the 3 phase 4 pole 12 coil generator is shown in FIG 21B for both the outer race windings and the inner race windings.

As would be readily appreciated by one skilled in the art, the illustrated hookup is referred to as a "high wye" connection. More specifically, in a *high wye* connection, each phase can be configured to include two winding circuits which may be connected in series and produces 480 volts or the like.

wye connection = connexion en étoile, mais high wye connection ?

Merci

Tony M Oct 17, 2015:
@ Abel But that's not what is being referred to here!
It's nothing to do with which pahse happens to be at the top of the diagram.

It's to do with the way the 'star' connections are made in relation to the neutral, in a system that is not totally symmetrical (as is more usually the case).
HERBET Abel Oct 17, 2015:

I could not find the answer, but thanks anyway.
Tony M Oct 12, 2015:
@ Asker Please see if you can find this already in the glossary — somethng very similar to this has been asked before, but I can' remember the exact answer then. I believe this is a specifically US concept, where the 3-phase 'star' (or 'Y') connection is not equally balanced around the neutral point, for some very good technical reason that presently escapes me.

Anyway, the answer should be already in the glossary, if only you can find it!

Peer comment(s):

disagree Jennifer Levey : Your webref, showing conventional wiring configurations, is irrelevant in Asker's context. And, BTW, point A in the "wye" diagram of the webref is electrically identical to points B and C.

not in all cases
disagree Tony M : Agree with Robin: this is just one phase of a conventional 'Y' arrangement, which is NOT the same as Asker's quite specific term.

It talks about a delta system, but the p^rinciple is similar for a star one. Please see other references in KudoZ to "high leg", which may also provide helpful information.
