Spanish term

interposición aérea gastrointestinal

due to the interposition of gastrointestinal air

i.e., the pancreatic region cannot be assessed because the view is blocked by gastrointestinal air

or, the pancreatic region cannot be assessed due to the interposition of gastrointestinal air

or, the pancreatic region cannot be assessed as it is obscured by gastrointestinal air

HTH ;@)

For example:

"Isolated pancreatic injury is rare, occurring in 0.2-12% of blunt trauma victims. Causes of pancreatic injury in this setting include a direct blow to the abdomen, falling across a rigid object with impact to the upper abdomen or seatbelt related injuries. Serum and urinary amylase levels are neither sensitive nor specific in diagnosing pancreatic injury.
****US is not useful in the evaluation of pancreatic injuries, in most series pancreatic injuries were not visualized due to interposition of air.***"

Gald to have helped Esther, the source was a little strange, so it's understandable that one may not interpret it correctly first time.

agree Charles Davis : Because you are conscientious, as you should be. That's how you get better translations ;) The thing with medical is not only absolute accuracy but also using the kind of expression real EN-speaking medics use.

Thanks Charles, means a lot coming from you ;@).

Thanks Helena
agree Otto Albers (X) : in medicine it is "intestinal gaseous interposition" because gaseous contents of the intestinal loops interfere with the visualization of the pancreas in this case.

Thanks Otto, but there are only instances of "intestinal gas interposition" (not gaseous). A book I'm translating on ultrasound uses "free gas" (free to rise to the non-dependent part/s of the intestines) as the name given to this problematic "air".
