German term

ausschüttungsfähige Sparkassen

German to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) German savings banks
Ausschüttende und ausschüttungsfähige Sparkassen

Whilst I understand what is meant by the term, I was wondering if there might be a 'snappy' term for 'ausschüttungsfähige'.
I don't see 'distributable' as an option as in 'distributable funds' etc. as the savings bank itself is not being distributed.

Many thanks is advance
Caitriona

TonyTK Jul 28, 2015:
@ Andrew But not the Cooperative Bank in the UK - which is a plc and not owned by its members. Neither are the Sparkassen - or, more precisely, they don't have any members.

Lancashireman Jul 28, 2015:
What's wrong with 'dividend'? This is what the Co-op in the UK has been paying out to its members since it was founded.
TonyTK Jul 28, 2015:
Sorry, I see you already ... ... covered this below. I assume all Sparkassen are allowed to pay out some of their profit (subject to the Basel III restraints) and that the "ausschüttungsfähig" refers to whether or not they've made enough money to do do.
TonyTK Jul 28, 2015:
Although some ... ... Sparkassen pay out part of their profit to their "owners" (for want of a better word), "dividend" does sound a little out of place in this context.

Hi Claudia,
Yes, I think you are right. There is no short 'one-worder' in English to match the German. Funny - it's nearly always the other way around, where German is more 'long-winded'.
Many thanks again

Claudia Hoffmann Jul 28, 2015:
Hi Caitriona,
My suggestion: Saving banks that pay out and that are in a position to pay out dividends.
Anything else does not make sense to me.
Hope it helps Ciatriona.
Caitriona O'Callanain (asker) Jul 28, 2015:
Absolutely Claudia, but in this instance I was looking for the term in relation to the payout/distribution of profits. I admittedly didn't make that clear in my comment.
Apologies, Caitriona
Claudia Hoffmann Jul 28, 2015:
Saving banks are also distributing dividends.

distribution A savings bank would be distributing profit and not dividends.

able to pay dividends

This probably is not the snappy term you are looking for but might be better than distributable.

According to dict.leo.org, another way to translate Ausschuettung is "dividend payout".

I don't know if this is what you were looking for but hopefully it helps a little bit.
