In a menswear catalogue, I find that term twice: Twist colour scarf and Twist colour beanie. I can't find any reference online, and the pictures I have of these items don't show anything particular about the colour that could make it "twist" (not the same colour in each case either). Both are knitted. Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

I finally found how "twist colour" is usually translated. Because of the particular pattern that the use of that type of yarn creates, it is called "effet flammé". There are quite a few references on the net (see ref. 1), and the ref. 2 shows the site of fashion retailer Asos where "twist colour" has been translated as "effet flammé" (to see it, just change the language in the top right corner).

peut-on imaginer que les 2 mots sont distincts et qu'il ne s'agit pas d'une couleur mais d'un foulard/une écharpe de couleur (colour scarf), et torsadé (twist) parce que c'est de la maille (knitted)? VOIR LIEN

| Merci beaucoup pour votre suggestion. Mais d'après les photos que j'ai (d'assez mauvaise qualité) ce n'est pas évident qu'il y ait des torsades. Surtout, les couleurs des articles sont un gris chiné et un violet sombre : elles ne pas assez particulières pour être mentionnées pour elle-mêmes dans la description. |

There is no doubt in my mind that the word "twist" applies to the colour, and not to the stitch for instance. The reference below, that shows yarn in "dark grey twist colour" shows it.
It looks to me like twist colour wool is made of strands of different colours twisted together. The resulting colour effect is more regular than mottled wool ("laine chinée"). Unfortunately, I have so far been unable to find a specific translation. "Laine torsadée" would be understood as a twisted stitch. "Laine multicolore torsadée" is probably just as ambiguous...

Sorry Abel. That may be the case in your reference, but I am quite convinced that in Bruno's ST, the twist applies to the colour of the wool.
