Thank you, Philip. You are right! It was an OCR error. And it was an OCR misread of HRCT, too! Although the OCR conversion I had done needed a lot of correcting, it seems that I had neglected to correct that error. I wasted well over an hour looking for the meaning of the wrong letters and caused you to waste a lot of time, as well. I was so engrossed with the translation that I omitted to check the pdf of the source text. I was translating the text in Trados, and had first converted the pdf that I had been sent to Word with ABBYY Fine Reader Professional. I am sorry to have put you to so much trouble. Put your explanation in as an answer and I will award you the points. It's the least I can do.

OCR error? Yes, I hate these things. My mind just goes blank. I've discovered something, though. One of the links returned by a web search for your acronym is this one:

If you can be bothered to download that file, you will see that it actually includes HRCT (e.g. on page 113), suggesting that the ΗΚΟΤ is the result of an error in the search engine's OCR.

Out of curiosity, I ran the pdf through my own OCR software and out popped ΗΚΟΤ once again.

Good morning Philip, Yes, I agree that this looks like a distinct possibility, but I just wanted to check if anyone else can think of anything else that these letters may stand for. I am like you in this way. I find these acronyms to be baffling! Thanks for the help.
