The transverse coil edges are cut by plasma cutting unit to form plain ends.
After the cutting operation, coil ends are machined using a beveling device and become ready for the welding operation.
The welding operation is carried out by 1 x MAG and up to 3 x SAW welding heads depending upon the pipe wall thickness.
*Skelp end welds* are not permissible for oil and gas line pipes and will be cut out.
Therefore, it is not necessary for the quality of the skelp ends to meet the requirements of specification.
The pipe section containing the skelp end weld shall be cut out during the length cutting step at the plasma station.

I did find 'feuillard' for skelp, but not sure how reliable that is, nor if it can be cobbled together in quite this way.

A technical definition is worth more, much more: Skelp – Plate of steel or wrought iron from which pipe or tubing is made by rolling the skelp into shape longitudinally and welding the edges together.
