Barracks ist what it is, so why not call it as such? Officer's barracks; beautifully renovated barracks, the ideal headquarters for.....; alpine barracks; etc.

Why not just write Comfortable, newly refurbished, self-catering holiday accommodation with two living kitchens and 28 beds...ideal for school trips, groups, parties, etc.

The way I see it, as long as there are pictures of it, it doesn't really matter what the building was.

Picture Yes, it comes with a picture. It's a large, sloped-roofed building with many windows. It's obviously something like a converted barracks, but I doubt if "barracks" is a great term to use in tourism. So they call it Lagerhaus.

Lagerhaus Are we perhaps missing the fact that a Lagerhaus can also be an agricultural building for storing hay/farming equipment etc. for the winter?

This could point to "bunk barn" as a reasonable translation for a converted barn

Either is fine. Hostel makes perfect sense, and while "camp house" doesn't get huge numbers of hits, its meaning is clear.

The Chesa Caratsch in S-chanf is used mainly by school groups for field trips or as holiday camp accommodation, but it is also booked by clubs and societies for weekends and holiday trips. You've already suggested hostel yourself, and I have an aversion to recycling the asker's own suggestions. (I wouldn't say that is a pointless exercise, as such answers are the ones that usually get chosen.)

A bunkhouse is a hostel or barracks-like building ... (Das Soldatenhaus ist eine preiswerte Unterkunft...)

In the United Kingdom, a bunkhouse provides accommodation with fewer facilities than a larger, staffed youth hostel. Bunkhouses are found in mountainous areas, such as the Scottish Highlands, as well as rural areas in England and Wales, for example at All Stretton.

barracks/headquarters

The text requires two terms:

Newly renovated barracks.....
...a popular headquarters for schools....

I suggest this for this particular text, accentuating the military background as well as giving a special sense of living 'in the center'. The term would certainly appeal to schoolkids.

Soldatenhaus makes me think that this is a converted army camp - Lager - so "cabin", "camping cabin", "hut" or "camping hut" could fit quite well.

For the Soldatenhaus alone, the name "billet" comes to mind

If the buildings are converted barns, the term bunk barns is quite common.

This is quite common in Swiss chalets or hostels. There is obviously a difference between Bettzimmer/lager, so my guess is that the bed is missing!

Gebäude zum Lagern von Gütern. See definition of loft. We have many such renovated buildings in Chicago and Milwaukee and they are all referred to as lofts.

It would definitely work for a U.S. readership. I can't comment on the United Kingdom, but it is the analogous term for the U.S. I've been in enough of them.
