The sleep time

English to French Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng FM alarm clock radio (instructions)
Press the sleep set button (4) and minute set button (6) together.


The sleep time will be displayed and count down from 59 minutes to zero.

@ Johannes Even though the EN is not perfect, it is understandable, and I am sufficiently familiar with this kind of domestic equipment to understand what it going on here without needing to extrapolate outside the source text. As you will see plenty of other people are too.

@ Johannes No more context is really needed: the question clearly states that this runs down from a max. of 59 mins, and it is clear enough that this is a 'go to sleep' function that turns off the radio after a certain length of time, during which you hope you will have dropped off.

chère Irène ton texte "original" est une mauvaise traduction, donc il ne faut pas se fier aux termes utilisés. Il faut traduire à partir de ce que l'on connaît dans ce domaine.

Il faudrait vérifier avec le contexte, mais apparemment il s'agit de la fonction de mise en veille. Cela permet d'écouter un programme radio et de définir le temps qui s'écoulera avant la mise en veille.

agree Tony M : It's the right idea, though the sleep here is 'the time it takes you to fall asleep', rather than the sleep (= standby) mode of the actual device.

neutral Philippe Etienne : Bien des réveils possèdent cette fonction endormissement, qui coupe la radio après un certain temps (ici 59 minutes max). Certains aiment s'endormir avec la radio.

disagree Tony M : es, but that's not abaout a radio alarm-clock! / No absolutely NOT! This is where familiarity with the equipment comes in: we are talking here about the user going to sleep, NOT the equipment going into 'standby' mode, more recently called 'sleep'.

It's about IT and data processing, applicable to all electronic equipment. // You said the contrary in the DB and your gradings. It's the clock timer cutting off and not the person's monitored time to drop off.
