Réception

Non-PRO français vers anglais Médecine Médecine (général) report on medical device
There is very little context, for this, and it may be that it should just be translated as 'Reception', (as I have done, so far), but I am not exactly sure what it means, here.
It is a heading, at the top of a report on adverse findings in an inspection for cleaning a medical device. (I have used xxxxx for the name of the company, also on the header of the report, but not the manufacturer of the device - maybe they are involved in the hospital where the report originates).
Context:
'Réception xxxxx (ne pas remplir s.v.p.)'

No other context - it is written at the top left of the report, below the header, where you would expect to find an address and date (neither of which are included there, although full details are given below of the origin of the report - hospital, name of author etc). 'Réception...' could, also, of course be translated as 'receipt', but neither translation makes a lot of sense, to me, and nor does writing 'Please do not fill in', at the top of a form that has already been completed.

The actual translation of this word is 'non-pro', so I have listed it as that to avoid the over-zealous corrections of those who like to change this. However, I am looking for informed advice from people who are familiar with medical reports.

Discussion

Jonathan MacKerron Nov 12, 2014:
My point was that the person filling out the form should not enter the date, but rather the recipient, nevertheless just a guess on my part.
mportal (asker) Nov 12, 2014:
It would make sense for it to mean 'received on' if it didn't specifically say '(ne pas remplir s.v.p.'
I also imagine it could mean 'Service Reception', but why state this at the head of the report?
Jonathan MacKerron Nov 12, 2014:
'received on' date to be entered by the recipient??
mchd Nov 12, 2014:
Abréviation pour Service Réception

Receipt by xxxxx / Received by xxxxx

I think the "(ne pas remplir s.v.p.)" might be an instruction not to add a date. Hard to tell without seeing the form and, apparently, also hard after seeing it.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you, Barbara. I suggested that the agency should ask the client, in the end, and it turned out that it meant 'Received by xxx', and the 'ne pas remplir svp' meant 'Please do not type here', as they wanted a space left for a date stamp."

XXX acceptance testing

If you try a term search, you ought to find several entries for 'réception' already in the glossary.

Your context is very lacking, since we need to know what the overlal document is about; but you did just mention 'report' 'findings' and 'inspection' — so I am taking a guess that this might be (failed) acceptance testing by the customer XXX of the product (following cleaning).

This is a not unfeasible scenario, and need not necessarily be anything specifically 'medical' — unless, of curse, there is a more specialist term in the medical field for this kind of 'acceptance testing'.

Sometimes, 'récpetion' can simply be 'goods inwards' — but it doesn't look to me as if that solution would really fit here?

Not necessarily, Asker — 'acceptance testing' can take place at any time, and when goods are being returned after cleaning seems to me a highly likely candidate; especially as in your case they seem to have been 'rejected' — if they failed the test, the results were not 'acceptable'.

But of course, only you, with the full document in front of you, can possibly tell ;-)
Note from asker:
I'm sorry, my first entry got deleted because I had to go back to the previous page, so I omitted to say that this is an inspection report on effective cleaning and disinfection of a medical device (which was not adequate at the hospital concerned). I, therefore, doubt if the term 'acceptance testing ' would be appropriate, would it? Wouldn't that be, more specifically, for the efficacity (or otherwise) of a newly-supplied device?
