"Out in the cold" significa excluido. "Doing types" son tipos activos: personas que actúan y no se limitan a pensar.
Me parece que en este contexto "activo", frente a "contemplativo", es el término adecuado.

Me inclinaría a evitar la palabra "hacedor"; es un término aplicado a Dios en la tradición cristiano y no me parece probable que un franciscano lo utilizara para referirse a personas que "hacen cosas":

Anoté mi acuerdo con la versión de Charles, porque me parece la mejor opción, en especial, si la traducción es para España.
Pero como a mí estos temas como que “me ponen”, te aporto unas cuantas versiones adicionales (algunas de ellas claramente inaplicables al contexto, pero que te doy como “divertimento” o como “variación” posible para otros contextos u otros registros... caso de que lo llegaras a necesitar... o si no, para abonar el humus que se acumula en el intelecto...)

Dejaba a quienes teníamos una personalidad extravertida, inquieta y dinámica a la buena de Dios (un poco más vulgarcillo: “nos dejaba con el culo al aire”)
Eso hacía que los que éramos gente abierta y rebosante de actividad quedáramos excluidos.
Con lo que quienes éramos extravertidos, activos y rebosantes de energía, quedáramos desamparados, dejados de la mano de Dios.
N.B.: “Extravertido” o “extrovertido”, que ambas las registra el DRAE, aunque creo recordar que hace algunos años Seco propugnaba o defendía el uso de “extravertido”... aunque creo que lo más usado es “estrOvertido”...
