Eu traduziria aqui por utilizados, porque o site seguinte me parece elucidativo:
We called them " run through" switches on the NYC. They were painted yellow or orange. They are still around but as you stated it is against the rules to run through them now. I must add I never saw or heard of an instance where a run through switch caused a derailment. - http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2060747
