Se usa tanto en ingles que me ha costado encontrar una traducción aceptable en castellano.
Es un poco más complejo que totalizar. Si alguien recibe un obsequio con valor (neto) 100, para fines del impuesto se considera que el valor del obsequio era del importe bruto al que una vez aplicado el impuesto daría como resultado 100. El grossing up consiste en llevar el valor neto al valor bruto, considerado como el ingreso real e la persona.
Un caso parecido:
Investopedia: A practice usually in reference to an employer reimbursing a worker for the taxes paid on some portion of their income, usually from a one-time payment such as relocation expenses. In other words, if an employee is promised $5,000 for relocation expenses, the actual check might be issued for $6,500. This would leave the promised $5,000 after the required taxes had been deducted.
