German term

Gastkritiker

German to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Absolutely no context. It merely appears in a conversation.
I thought "invited critic" might be appropriate, but I am open to any suggestions.

Discussion

philgoddard Jun 6, 2014:
It can mean critic or lecturer, but there's no way of knowing without context.
BrigitteHilgner Jun 6, 2014:
guest reviewer? Mit Armorel & m8ill2
mill2 Jun 6, 2014:
with Armorel There is *always* context.
Armorel Young Jun 6, 2014:
Really no context? If it was used in a conversation. then surely it was at least used in a sentence. And surely the conversation covered some sort of topic. All this surrounding information would be useful and would count as context.

guest lecturer

I have seen this used in the past in academic circles as a term for guest lecturers
Peer comment(s):

agree writeaway : guest whatever for sure (in English).

disagree Dhananjay Rau : Maybe in "professorial" jargon, but certainly not conventional

agree philgoddard : I don't understand Dhananjay's comment.

agree Thayenga : This is an option. :)

agree Thomas Pfann : Wieder was gelernt. Diese Bedeutung von „Gastkritiker“ war mir neu, stimmt aber natürlich. Scheint speziell im Architekturbereich verwendet zu werden, oder?

Peer comment(s):

agree Yorkshireman : So would I

neutral writeaway : guest and definitely not invited. if it's literally a Kritiker then it's literally a critic. not really a "pro" question /there is NO context so a remotely possible answer shouldn't be zapped as wrong!!! not really fair play

agree Armorel Young : In the total absence of context, this is the only way to go.

neutral philgoddard : You are correct, but you should not have disagreed with Lesley's answer, which is also right.
2 hrs
neutral Thayenga : Your answer is good. My question is, why disagree with Lesley's answer?

agree Thomas Pfann : Eine Möglichkeit. Ob es die richtige ist, wird der Kontext zeigen ...

neutral Lancashireman : Often happens when you disagree with a competing answer. Michael is 'der lachende Dritte'.
