Design 1: Copper stamping-type resistance ring design
Here, in place of the existing solid resistance ring, laminated resistance rings of 13 numbers of copper laminations each of 1 mm thickness, mounted on the shaft, have been used just adjacent to end punching of rotors. This design takes care of differential thermal expansion of the rotor bar and steel core and allows copper stampings to bend outward in the axial direction, thereby minimising the effect of thermal stresses in addition to torsional stress as shown in Fig. 2b.
Selection of 13 numbers is done based on the current density of copper.
The first natural frequency of this design of the rotor is 378 Hz against the maximum frequency of the converter,
which is 168 Hz, eliminating the possibility of resonance completely. Against a life of 2–3 years, this design of rotors with OFC as the rotor bar and resistance ring material has been in service for over 4 years and, after successful trial, 60 more rotors of this design have gone into service in the last 1 year. Based on the estimated reduction of stress in rotor bars and the use of ZrCu, 18 years of life is expected for this design of rotors.

My invention comprises placing a punching of low resistance material, such as copper or brass, at each end of the assembled rotor laminae, said punchings being provided with openings aligned with the squirrel cage bar openings through the laminae. The squirrel cage is then cast on the assembly in the usual manner, the end ring material engaging the outer faces of the low resistance punchings and being maintained in good electrical contact therewith as the result of the contraction of the squirrel cage bars upon cooling. The conductive end punchings lower the resistance of the squirrel cage, the extent of the modification being governed by the thickness of these punchings.

The stator core is constructed with thin, high quality, low loss and non grain-oriented, cold rolled silicon steel laminations. Each punching is deburred. The laminations are reinsulated on both sides with insulating varnish to minimize eddy current losses. The ventilation ducts provided at intervals along the stator core, are formed by means of steel spacing bars securely welded to the end punching. The laminations are securely held in place by mild steel clamping flanges at each end.

W silniku asynchronicznym zwartym, w żłobkach wirnika, znajdują się nieizolowane pręty wykonane z miedzi lub aluminium zwarte na obydwu czołach wirnika...
