German term

industrielle Führerschaft

German to English Bus/Financial Law: Contract(s) Joint Venture agreement
Describing a joint venture. Firma X hat die industrielle Führerschaft, Firma Y verantwort das operative Management.
Think it means they have a controlling stake but need this confirmed.

Discussion

Yorkshireman Mar 6, 2014:
False friends Führerschaft as well. Here, this appears to be leadership in terms of management rather than excellence.

XY bears/holds leadership/management responsibility for the production side
philgoddard Mar 6, 2014:
Industriell is a false friend - the same is true of the French "industriel". It means production or manufacturing here, so I would say "is the production lead".
Yorkshireman Mar 6, 2014:
@vtimp tend to agree with you on your first suggestion.

Not sure about operations, operational or operative management - depends on how the venture defines it - could mean financial, human resources and strategy.
Trilogy Mar 6, 2014:
@Patricia Be careful: "operatives Management" includes "Produktion". To me it looks rather like Firma X = production, Firma Y = staff function.
vtimp Mar 6, 2014:
I would use a verb form plus noun such as to be in charge for, charged with , i.e. company X is in charge of manufacturing, company Y will be in charge of operations management.

operations management vs production http://mitsloan.mit.edu/omg/om-definition.php
Trilogy Mar 6, 2014:
@Patricia If you are sure about it, Brigitte Hilgner is right in her assumption. You could say: the leading role of firm X is manufacturing (or similar).
Patricia Will (asker) Mar 6, 2014:
No it is nothing to do with being an industrial leader. But I wonder what does having industrial control of a JV actually mean. There are some other references on the web to Firma X holding the controlling stake and appointing the CFO, this is why I wonder if they just mean they are the leading partner in the JV. I think being responsible for the manufacturing side would perhaps make sense, although how that is distinguished from operations I am not sure.
BrigitteHilgner Mar 6, 2014:
Trilogy Mar 6, 2014:
@Patricia Is Firma X an industry leader or does it have industrial control in the venture?
